Gala fun and lucky cow pats

It's a game involving a large field, a well-fed cow and cow pat. A very lucky cow pat to be exact.

The lucky cow pat could win someone $2000 at Bethlehem School's annual Cow Dump and Gala this morning.

But it's not Cameo the cow taking centre stage this year. Instead, all eyes will be on Dumpling's rear end today.

'We have a new cow this year,” says Bethlehem School principal Brian Field. Her name is Dumpling. 'Seeing as it's a cow dump we thought that Dumpling might be a nice name for her.”

The name is fitting because Dumpling will stand on a gridded field and poop onto a square, or squares. Gala-goers purchase tickets that correspond to grids on the field, and the person holding the ticket to the square Dumpling poops in first, wins the prize money. There's also $200 prizes for the eight surrounding squares that she dumps on.

While waiting for Dumpling to do her business, there's plenty of activities to entertain the crowds including, a ping pong throw, giant slides, bouncy castles, food stalls and more.

Medieval sword fights and performances from children in the school's talent programme and Zumba demonstrations are also scheduled throughout the day.

It's the school's biggest fundraising event for the year – and Brian is expecting a big day.

'It's a special day for all of the kids because all our classes and staff are involved.”

Brian says funds will go towards the building of seven new classrooms at the Carmichael Rd school, which are due to start in September.

Funds will also go towards refurbishing the school's playgrounds and erecting shade canopies, as well as installing heat pumps into some of the classrooms.

'We're really focussed on enhancing the student environment.”

Brian wishes to thank the event's major sponsor Brookfield New World and everyone else for their support.
