Not above standing on the deaths of three people to get a shot in huh Kaveman? There is no accounting for human error is there but oh wait - every crash is a police failure. Good on ya mate.

All SO SIMPLE STOP Speeding, drink nothing!!! And drive to the approved speed!!! Also drive to the conditioned!!! ITS ALL THAT SIMPLE!!!There is enuff signs on this stretch of Road both ways. Its a 90k area and in some parts lower. DRIVE AND SURVIVE!!!

The fault isnt the road.....

What happened with patience, why rush and have a need to pass and do so then theres the use of mobile phones while driving and other distractions most of the deaths on that road are proof of the above.

I struggle to understand

Why there are so many crashes on this piece of road. You can't blame the road for it, it's the drivers, but why here? It's not particularly steep, or winding, or narrow, or complicated. I've driven this road many, many, many times in large trucks including oversized loads, and still can't understand it

Not that simple

Jill, It is not that simple. The vast majority of deaths this year have not been caused by excessive speed or alchohol. Most have been caused by sheer carelessness which reflects the low standard of driving in nz. The driving licence is too easy to pass compared to the skills required in other countries to get one. Lack of indicator use and no consideration of other road users is common in nz.

Its Not The Road.

Road is Ok...

The drivers are impatient, dont follow at a safe distance, tail gate, pull out into on coming traffic, dont drive to conditions ect ect, driving that road at different times of day and night you really have to wonder... Be safe people! Have patients!! it is not the Roads fault, its wide, and not that bad really. Please jst pay attention when driving and be courteous. Very Sad.

10 dead on the roads this weekend and the call has gone out to lower the speed limit again-target everyone to punish a few.The fact is that cars kill people & so do guns. Blanket lowering of the speed limit is like lowering the speed that bullets travel at to reduce deaths when guns are fired at people.Instead why not educate drivers more, target slow inconsiderate drivers who won't travel at the general traffic speed & won't pull over to let competent drivers past.Build more passing lanes:experienced drivers will be patient if they know there is a chance to pass shortly. Nothing promotes dangerous driving & road rage like slow road hogs who have no idea how many cars they are holding up cause they don't look in their mirrors.80% of fatal crashes occur under the speed limit- incompetence kills, speed reduction won't work.

Bad Driving

Clearly the police are targeting the wrong thing. Maybe they should target bad drivers and unregestered and unwarrented and or un licenced drivers. Take the cars off them otherwise they keep doing it.

I'm glad Jill is not in charge of road safety- she would have us all driving nana cars going at a snail's pace: meanwhile mum or dad driving with a car load of kids gets distracted by the constant chorus of 'are we there yet?'because the journey is taking so long, turns to tell the kids to shut up, crosses the centre long & has a head on crash. But they may not be all killed cause the impact might be less unless it is with a 50 ton truck. Let's ban trucks then...
