A teenager is in Rotorua Hospital with serious rib injuries after falling from his horse in Ruatahuna.
The Tauranga-based Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to the Urewera settlement at 4pm on Sunday following the 18-year-old's fall.

Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter pilot Todd Dunham says the teen was treated at the scene before being flown to Rotorua hospital for further treatment.
The helicopter was used due to the remote location and the injuries involved.

Maybe the authorities should look at: - regulations, rules, licenses and so on. Perhaps a good new scheme would be to collect fees and registrations I am sure a whole new layer of officials would appear overnight all in nice neat white costs and all with clip boards. The ultimate is that the obvious risk in horse riding is horses, perhaps they should be deemed to be a notorious weed and banned from use.
