Delays expected on SH2

The New Zealand Transport Agency are warning motorists travelling on State Highway 2 between Tauranga and Papamoa to expect delays this week.

The advice comes as contractors continue work on the Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Road.

Speed restrictions of 50km/h and traffic management, including lane closures, will be in place between the Te Maunga roundabout and Mangatawa interchange from today (Tuesday).

Delays are possible and motorists are urged to allow extra time when travelling on this route.

On Wednesday, April 22, between 9.00am and 5.00pm, westbound lanes heading to Tauranga will be reduced to one lane and moved to one side. A 50km/h temporary speed restriction will be in place.

The following day, on Thursday, April 23 between 6.00am and 5.00pm, the SH2 slip lane at the Te Maunga roundabout will be closed to allow for road surfacing works. All traffic will be diverted via the roundabout.

During this time, the eastbound lanes (heading to Te Puke) will be reduced to one lane and moved to one side, with a 50km/h temporary speed restriction in operation.

know why ?? because the 1st coats of seal are already failing, this will be another nightmare for years to come just like the Tauranga expressway was, i remember something like about 10years before that settled and then it was re leveled to get that flat, i think the area around Bruce road is to low and should have been built up but another flood like 2005 will soon see if its right

If council used a logical approach to development then the rate payers would have nothing to fund . You ask yourself the question why when we are experiencing global warming and water levels predicted to rise by at least 1mtr by 2050 at the very least why would you have so much sea level development now ?. When we questioned council the reply was higher ground is to profitable at present so using low lying areas such as Papamoa the Lakes etc make more economic sense at present . So with housing becoming increasingly unaffordable we also have to find large amounts of money to build miles of sea walls . Council are the same as all other powers in this country looking after your developer mates and construction contractors . Time for people to speak up and stop the sheep mentality.
