Q&A on Long Term Plan

A city council Long Term Plan stand is an added attraction to the community events at Papamoa and Mount Maunganui this weekend as the deadline on submissions approaches.

Tauranga city councillors are going to be at the NZ Longboard Championships and Little Big Market at the Papamoa Domain on Saturday morning, and the Mount Farmers Market in Phoenix carpark on Sunday morning.

Councillors will be at the Papamoa Domain tomorrow.

There is just over a week left for the public to make submissions on the direction the council will be heading in over the next few years, with a 4pm deadline on April 20.

Growth is an issue for Tauranga, requiring financial juggling to maintain the balance between running and paying for the existing infrastructure and services while ensuring there's enough land services and housing to cater for the new comers to the area.

The trade-offs involved are also open to discussion until April 20.

'We've got some submissions that have come in already, but they tend to come in later during the submissions period,” says TCC group communications advisor Emma Cottin.

'We are still pushing a lot of information out there and getting the consultation document to encourage as many submissions as possible.”

The consultation document is available online and there are hard copies available at the council offices and libraries. There will also be copies at the council stand at the Papamoa and Mount Maunganui events.

Councillors are available at both weekend events.

Emma says: 'The one yesterday in Greerton village square was a little bit rainy, but there was a lot of foot traffic and we had some good discussions and a busy stand for the three hours that councillors were there.”

While the council is encouraging submissions on the plan, people can give feedback to councillors on any other topic that matters to them or raise any issue they believe the council should be paying attention to, adds Emma.
