One man is dead and another is yet to be found after three people went swimming off Makorori Beach, near Gisborne, this morning.

A third person, a 20-year-old man, managed to make his way to shore after he and his swimming companions got into trouble while swimming around 9.50am.

Searchers are looking for a man who went missing after getting into trouble while swimming this moring.

Police say shortly after they arrived at the scene, the body of a man in his early 20s was located at the beach tide.

'A third man, also on his early 20s, is yet to be located,” says Senior Sergeant Clint

'The ECT Rescue Helicopter, Surf Lifesavers with an IRB, Coastguard, and locals are assisting police as they search for the missing man.”
