Cure Kids thrilled with $9K donation

The $9000 raised for Cure Kids from the Wheels of Cure Kids event in Tauranga will go towards finding cures for children with life threatening illnesses.

The money was raised on Saturday, January 10, in an event that saw performances from FMX and BMX riders.


The money raised from the Wheels for Cure Kids event last weekend will go towards find cures for life threatening childhood diseases.

Fraser Cove also hosted a variety of entertainment for kids, along with hot rods, bikes and classic cars on display.

Wheels for Cure Kids organisers Luke Price and Cameron Keogh are already in talks about next year's extravaganza.

Cure Kids CEO Vicki Lee says they are thrilled to be the recipient charity of Wheels for Cure Kids 'which was a unique and adrenaline filled event”.

'We're extremely thankful to Luke Price and Richard Foster for their incredible support in putting together such a successful fundraiser. And star rider Levi Sherwood for donating his time,” says Vicki.

'We won't rest until we find the cures that Kiwi kids need and every cent raised makes a difference. You never know which dollar will find the cure.”

Cure Kids funds research into better treatments and cure for a wide range of childhood diseases such as: still birth, leukaemia, rheumatic heart disease, asthma and inherited heart conditions.

Since 1975, Cure Kids have invested $36 million in child health research in New Zealand.

New Zealand child health statistics:

*One in every 30 Kiwi kids is born with a genetic malformation. That's an average of one child in every classroom.

*More than 600 babies are born with heart defects each year. At least 30 will need corrective surgery.

*Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia is the most common form of childhood cancer, affect about 30 New Zealand children per year.

*Respiratory disease is the number one cause of admission to public hospital among one to four-year-olds.

*600 to 800 patients – mainly young adults – are admitted to the hospital for rheumatic heart disease each year.

*Every year, 475 children are admitted to hospital with serious burns and eight will die from their injuries.
