The Rotorua-based BayTrust Rescue Helicopter was called to the small town, 50km south-west of Taupo, yesterday afternoon.
A rescue helicopter spokesperson says the 17-year-old teenager was competing at a sports tournament when he fell and dislocated his elbow.
As emergency services were busy with multiple events in Turangi, the helicopter was dispatched so as not to use up any more resources.
Emergency services set up a landing area away from the tournament for the helicopter to land.
