Council extend free parking

Tauranga city centre and parts of the Mount will continue to benefit from free parking until the end of January.

In a statement from Tauranga City Council this morning, authorities are looking to 'keep the Christmas cheer going” into 2015, with their ‘free after 3' initiative extended over the next four weeks.

Tauranga City Council have extended their free parking offer until the end of January 2015.

The statement says: 'We hope you all took advantage of the free parking for Christmas in downtown Tauranga.

'To keep the Christmas cheer going we'll be extending our free after 3 parking deal on weekdays throughout January 2015 - that's on-street, off-street and parking buildings downtown Tauranga and at the Phoenix car park at the Mount.

Usual fees apply on Saturdays until 1pm and Sundays/public holidays remain free.

Other offers at parking buildings throughout January include giving motorists the first hour free throughout the week, and parking of up to 3 hours for $1 on Mondays.

The statement adds: 'Our free after 3 offer means that when you use a parking meter, your docket will read 'expiry 3pm” - that's normal and you can stay parked there beyond 3pm.”

Stop playing with the parking.

Please Council staff stop playing around with the parking and get behind the need to improve the viability and vitality of our slowly dying CBD. You know and see the need for monitored free parking with time limits in the CBD but refuse to admit it.You also know that the CBD empties out after 3pm and you are trying to make out you are care but by past experience you really don't. Why don't you do the whole city a favour and make the parking permanently free and stop this nonsense of consistently changing the times and costs of parking? Parking confusion in the CBD only benefits the shopping centres who offer free parking 365 days of the year.

this lot, how long has it taken for the Council to reach this decision?, but thinking about it they have had mould issues, so self preservation is more important.

TCC tell so many porkies they get confused

Tauranga City Council consistently tell us that their 'double dipping' on street parking revenue collecting in the CBD has NO impact on the attractiveness or otherwise as a shopping / business destination, yet, equally consistently, for remove parking charges and or parking building access charges for reasons I assume they think will draw customers into the CBD. Devon Campbell is quite correct in his comments identifying the that the self serving games TCC play serves only to further confuse the community and further erode the credibility of the decision makers. Parking management MUST be applied throughout ALL shopping precincts on an equally footing and the CBD must address mall and one way pedestrian friendly, sheltered options. After 3 FREE???? Nuts!

moaning, why don't you just enjoy what's on offer? Life is too short to get your knickers in a twist about parking your car - have you heard of walking?

Free, cheap or whatever parking isn't going to help the CBD from its demise. I know people who won't go there because they get the impression parking there is difficult. Not true, but you could be forgiven for thinking so due to the continued grumpy photos and words attributed to retailers. Perhaps they should look at service standards and any excessive markups on the goods they sell? As for Murray's suggestion of mall and shelter options, whose going to pay? Not the ratepayer again I hope. And with the "free" street parking who will pay to park in a parking building? I'm guessing less and less people and then guess who will pick up any losses? Think ratepayers once again. I'm happy to see some opposing and reasoned arguments, but leave out stuff like accusations of porkies as that starts to wear a bit thin.

Justification please Anilist

Its easy to write the way you do without facts or proof.Your comments would make far more sense if you could justify what you write with even a small amount of fact and slightly more proof. If your comments are the honest truth then you will not be afraid to back up what you write with some facts and proof.
