Clare Wilson eyes TCC seat

Former Bay of Plenty Labour candidate Clare Wilson is setting her sights on channelling her passion for the community through the upcoming by-election for the Mount and Papamoa Ward.

Clare today announced she is throwing her hat in the ring to contest the seat vacated by NZ First List MP Clayton Mitchell following the September 20 general election.

Clare Wilson will run for the
Mount and Papamoa Ward seat in next year's Tauranga City Council by-election.

In a statement, Clare says she has extensive networks and a grassroots knowledge of the community she will represent, from the youth to the retired population, and from small business owners to major employers and international companies.

With existing councillor Steve Morris based in Papamoa, the registered nurse and Justice of the Peacer believes she is the ideal candidate given she is from Mount Maunganui.

She says her support base from across the ward is excited and enthusiastic that she is embracing the challenge of the by-election.

'I know that I am the right person for this position,” says Clare.

'I have the skills and the characteristics, but most importantly I have a passion for this community and I will be honoured to be elected to the council.

'I pledge to give my total committment to representing those who elect me, and their wishes at a local government level.”

Clare's nomination follows Papamoa resident and former Mount Mainstreet manager Leanne Brown announcing her intention to stand for Clayton's former ward seat in October.

The by-election takes place on February 17.

Probably about time that

Posted on 02-12-2014 09:41 | By How about this view!

All prospective and sitting Councillors front-up with their political allegiances. If we spend the time to observe the ridiculous situations in other parts of the world (USA and U.K. to name just two) It is clear that the infantile points scoring of the parliamentary system can, and often does, inhibit logical decision making at grassroots level in the provinces. Labour were routed at the last election (Possibly with good reason) and the thought that we may be subject to decision making and opposition to government policy from politically aligned local body Councillors rankles with me. I thought that ALL politicians, Local and National, were elected to promote the interests of their electorates, so come-on let's see some honesty, integrity and vision from those with their snouts in the public purse. Good luck to Clare Wilson and all other candidates, I wish you all well.

Bases covered ...

Her dad, Philip Sherry (former TV News), in his 80's still relishes public service as a BOP Regional Councillor such it appears to be 'in the blood line'.

Having heard Clare Wilson speak recently as Labour candidate for Bay of Plenty at Papamoa I'm afraid I was not impressed.

Photoshopped!

I hope she is more honest than this photoshopped portrait!!!

A Strong Leader

Clare Wilson embodies a respectable, loyal, honest leader of the community. Contrary to the opinions of some, Clare speaks well and does a very good job at representing her community and the people of the city. TCC needs Councillors like Clare, who would do well at serving as a grass-roots leader. I believe that the work that Clare did within the Labour Party only aids to strengthen her strong sense of community mindedness. I wish Clare, and all the other potential candidates the best.

What a relief

having heard Ms Wilson speak a few times, I am delighted that she is standing. My hope is that she will offer a breath of fresh air, some honesty, transparency and integrity to the current council.....all which she has in abundance. She certainly will get my vote, the council are lucky that she is standing.....good luck Clare, your perseverance and stamina is quite incredible.

God help us! - another interferring busybody who knows what is best for you, and how best to spend taxpayers money. I am certain Claire has firm views on who should be robbed, and who should be the recipients of the stolen loot. She is sure to have views on how, where and when we should be entertained, and who should be doing the entertaining too. Claire is a PERFECT example of the kind of person we do NOT need in a council that has no boundaries on their interference in our lives. We already have a council full of this type of caring, community minded councillors with no restrictions to their meddling. We certainly do not need another. Im sure she is a lovely person - if only her immoral and unprincipled politics didnt let her down.

Unimpressed

The reason I was unimpressed when I heard her and the Conservative candidate speak was as they are both nurses they did not know what was going on behind the scenes in their profession as nurses. They were asked a question re "Maori" signing off and approving all clinically tested drugs/medications in NZ to ensure they are culturally acceptable and their answers were very similar ie I haven't heard of that so it can't be correct !!!!!!!
