Homicide victim in 'late teens'

Police are yet to identify the victim of the homicide launched in Ohauiti, but believe him to be a Western Bay of Plenty man in his late teens.

Emergency services at the scene.

A homicide investigation is underway in Tauranga after a man's body was found at the end of a driveway of an Ohauiti property over the weekend.

Police were called to Mansfield St shortly after 9am on Sunday after the discovery was made by the occupants of the house.

A post mortem is scheduled to be carried out this morning to establish the cause of death.

The scene was cordoned off to allow for a scene examination, with a team of about 30 officers are working on the investigation.

Police have established there was a party at a neighbouring address and it's believed the deceased had been at that party.

Police received no calls to the party address or reports of any trouble at that location.

However, police say officers attended a report of a stabbing some distance away near the intersection of Welcome Bay Rd and Ohauiti Rd, opposite the Palmers Garden Centre at 12.30am.

Police say enquiries suggest the deceased was not at this location or involved in this incident. Police are looking at possible links between the two events.

One man received hand and facial injuries during this second event, according to police, who say the man was treated at hospital and later discharged.

Police want to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious at either location; particularly any vehicles.

They say the focus is to speak to all partygoers, identify any other witnesses from the area after completing the scene examination.
