Thrills, spills and fireworks

Baypark Family Speedway promoter Bernie Gillon is calling last night's annual fireworks display and speedway showdown a roaring success.

More than 5000 people were entertained by some top-class racing as well as a well-choreographed fireworks display, ending the Saturday night with a bang.

'It was all very, very close racing and the fireworks display was just phenomenal,” says Bernie.

'It went on for well over 15 minutes and the guys that put it on really choreographed a great show and it ended up with some huge explosions that shook the whole facility.”

Bernie says there was some really good racing from all classes.

The Sprint Car Final was taken out by 18-year-old Steven Taylor, who travels up from Wellington every speedway meeting to race in the feature.

And Christchurch driver Mark Osborne dominated the super saloons, says Bernie, who feels privileged to host some of the country's top race car drivers.

'We're really well supported from all around the country.”

Another young gun Daniel Corin travelled up from Gisborne to win the Saloon Car feature.

Bernie wants to thank everyone who attended last night's event for their support.

He look forward to seeing everyone back in two weeks' time for the Super Stock Bash for Cash event at Baypark Family Speedway on November 15.
