Hairy Mcclary vid to raise support

A 90-second video campaign has been launched to raise much needed support for the final leg of the Hairy Maclary and Friends Tauranga Waterfront Sculpture Project.

The project is being run by Creative Tauranga to pay tribute to Dame Lynley Dodd and the Hairy Maclary children's book series, which has been bringing joy to generations of New Zealanders for the last 31 years.

A screen shot from the video. Watch the video below.

The project is a 'storybook scene" of bronze sculptures of Hairy Maclary and his friends – Hercules Morse, Schnitzel von Krumm, Bottomley Potts, Muffin McLay, Scarface Claw, Slinky Malinki, Bitzer Maloney and Zachary Quack – sculpted by Lord of the Rings head sculptor, Brigitte Wuest due to be installed on Tauranga's redeveloped waterfront (Dame Lynley Dodd's hometown).

Fronted by New Zealand TV personality Jackie Clarke, the video shares a sneak peak of the bronze sculptures coming out to play with some excited young fans including the real-life models for Hairy Maclary and Hercules Morse.

Creative Tauranga's chief executive, Tracey Rudduck-Gudsell, says the sculptures will be in place for generations to come, celebrating a quintessential childhood classic that has brought joy to millions of fans from around the world.

'We're hoping to make a bit of a splash online in a bid to raise the remaining $90,000 needed to make the project happen.

'There's been a team of incredibly talented and generous people working on this for more than two years – we've come such a long way. We can see the finish line, we just need everyone to help give a little for the books that have given so much.”
