Thousands gather to raise millions

Thousands of people have packed out the ASB Arena to help raise money for eight local charities.

The 2014 Tauranga Police CIB Luncheon is a sell-out hit with more than 170 items up for auction today.

Jackie Clarke is the Master of Ceremonies for the 2014 police auction.

The auction is expected to raise $300,000 for eight local charities, which will surpass a grand total of $2 million dollars raised by the event overall. As usual, the money raised from the event goes straight back into the community to make a difference to the lives of others.

Out of the 50 applicants to this year's auctions, the eight successful charities are: St John Building Project Trust, Acorn Foundation, Amped4Life, Cystic Fibrosis BOP, Kathleen Kilgour Centre, Te Tuinga Support Services, Decision Reach Out (Toro Mai) Trust and Merivale School.

This year's Tauranga Police CIB Luncheon will be the final one, marking a celebratory end to the fundraiser's prestigious 20-year history.

Perhaps the Acorn Foundation have more requests for money, than they have money available? And why use insulting language like "hand out"? The attitude of "people" like you make me sick.
