Life savers targeted by thieves

Rescue radios, a crucial radio asset, is one of the items stolen from Hot Water Beach surf life savers in recent weeks.

Police investigating the burglaries say offenders might want to have a good look at themselves and 'maybe at least return the rescue radios stolen as they are a crucial rescue asset”.

Hot Water Beach Surf Life Savers have been burgled twice and a team member has had their bag stolen in recent weeks.

'Over the last few weeks HWB life Savers have been burgled twice and on another occasion one of their team had a bag of gear stolen from the base while out training,” says Sergeant Andrew Morrison.

'With warmer weather heading our way a lot more people will be heading to our area to enjoy our beaches and like other years I suspect hundreds of people will be saved or assisted by Hot Water Beach Life Savers.

'Combined with the large numbers of local children who attend their junior training and gain their initial confidence in the sea it is even more offensive when thieves target their new base.”

Andrew asks anyone with information about the thefts to contact their local police station.

Alternatively, information can be left anonymously via the Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 line.
