MP welcomes project grants

Two new grants to help protect Coromandel's kiwi and Kauri are being welcomed by MP Scott Simpson.

Scott says the kiwi care project Whenuakiwi has been awarded $25,000 for predator control in the eastern Coromandel, and Kauri 2000 Trust has received $57,000 to help prevent the spread of Kauri Dieback disease.

The grants are from the Community Conservation Partnership Fund which provides funding to community-led conservation groups for natural heritage and recreation projects.

'These grants support the good work these local groups are carrying out in Coromandel communities to protect our precious flora and fauna.

'The grants will support the groups' continued successes in targeting predators that threaten kiwi, and in raising awareness to reduce the risk to Kauri.”

The grants were announced by the Associate Conservation Minister Nicky Wagner during her visit to the Coromandel on Wednesday.
