UPDATED 3.09PM: A man in his 70s is being treated for moderate injuries after being cut from his vehicle on Wright Road, near Katikati.

The man was initially trapped following a two vehicle crash just after 2pm.

Katikati Constable Andy Berntsen says the driver of the Honda was coming out of his driveway when he failed to give way to an on-coming Toyota Hilux.

"He has been T-boned and shunted into the bank. The female driver of the Hilux didn't suffer any injuries."

Andy says the man was initially reported to be in a serious condition has not been down graded to about status 3 or 4 which means he is suffering from minor to moderate injuries.

"It's a timely reminder for people to be aware of their surroundings, especially on rural roads. Crashes like these happen out here too."
