Should checkouts be sugar-free

Sugar-free checkouts will hit the sweet spot with 34 per cent of New Zealanders a new Horizon Research study finds.

The survey found that 34.1 per cent of adults nationwide think supermarkets should remove confectionary and sugary items from all checkout lanes, while 32.8 per cent say it will make them feel better about the supermarket at which they mostly shop.

Some 21.7 per cent of shoppers buy sugary goods at check-outs, but not on impulse, and say it is convenient for them to be able to select them at the checkout counter.

Supermarkets in New Zealand have been reported as saying they would consider following removing confectionary from checkouts if there is enough demand for it from customers.

Just doesn't stop! It's an epidemic, folk interfering in the business and private lives of others. Mostly everybody blames somebody else for their failure to be accountable, responsible for their actions.

that they don't have to have or touch everything they see, right from babyhood. It's called self-discipline. Those adults with none could learn it too. It's not really hard.

Now here's an idea, stack them in the cupboards next to the ciggy's They are a health problem too. And then put them in plain packaging. There you have it!!

Sugar in fruit

The lady that used the argument that compared sugar in fruit to confectionary needs to get an education. One is processed the other is in its pure synergistic state. The fibre in fruit slows the absorption of sugar and in turn reduces the bodies need to spike in insulin. This has a large affect on whether the sugar is used as energy or stored as fat (without going into diabetes). Also banana is about 12% sugar(s) with 0.3% fat. Compare that to a candy bar, go on!
