Bay Twisters cheerleaders are cheering louder than ever after receiving a number of medals, including one for the best tumbling sequence, at their very first major competition this weekend.

A total of 40 girls from Bay Twisters competed in the Twisted Boom Creative Cheer and Dance competition, hosted by American company 'Twisted Cheer', at Auckland's ASB Stadium on Saturday.

The teams took home five first place wins, three seconds and a third placing, including an award for the best tumbling sequence of the day.

Rebecca Grigson has been preparing girls aged five to 17 for the competition since the creation of the non-profit sports organisation in December 2013.

'It was a long but amazing day,” says Rebecca. 'We came back with medals galore and banners for our gym.”

Rebecca says the biggest win of all is that Bay Twisters duo Annaleise Grigson and Amelia Cox and Tornados Level Three have qualified to perform in the All Star Games in Las Vegas in March next year.

'We will be fundraising like crazy from now on.”

American Company ‘Tiwsted Cheer' comes to New Zealand to hold the competition three times a year.
