Chilly early morning starts

Cold mornings are on the cards for the Eastern Bay this week with overnight lows fluctuating from three degrees to nine degrees.

Showers are expecting to creep into the region on Thursday and Saturday.

The MetService is predicting rain for the Eastern Bay for the end of the week.

The MetService is predicting plenty of clear blue sky and sunshine for the first half of the week, albeit with a distinctly autumnal chill in the air first thing in the morning.

This week starts with the remains of the weekend's high pressure still firmly in place.

But as active weather systems move northwards across New Zealand this week, there is some wet and windy weather on the way.

'It's a great start to the week across the North Island,” says meteorologist John Law.

'For many spots Monday and Tuesday will be dry with plenty of sunshine. The cloudiest places are likely to be on the West Coast with some rain as well.”

The forecast for the week contains more rain for the west of the South Island in the coming days with Severe Weather Warnings in force for Fiordland and the ranges of southern Westland.

John says wet weather is set to move up the South Island and onto the North Island during Wednesday.

'It isn't all bad news, as ahead of the rain, there will be some warmer temperatures in the east.

'The return of the northwest winds will be a real boost to the temperatures for the middle of the week down the eastern side of the country.” Later in the week, another front approaches the country, with further heavy rain expected for the West Coast and severe northwest gales possible in eastern areas from Wairarapa to Otago.
