ASB Baypark Speedway fans were treated to a night of fast racing action with a smorgasbord of incidents across the classes on Saturday night.

The evening started with the Saloons contesting their 2013/ 2014 season Baychamps.

Current 1NZ Chris Cowling fought off a number of strong challenges from 2NZ Brent McClymont to secure the title, with third place going to the well driven 82M of Paul Managh.

‘Six Shooters' were introduced to Baypark Speedway fans for the first time. With the original starting line up in excess of 20 cars they did provide some fast action with young Hamiltonian Daniel Thomas taking the feature win from 18K Laz Maszaros with 88K Keaton Dahm in third.

The fastest of the lightweight 600kg 200 HP flyers were able to produce lap times similar to those of a Super Saloon on Baypark's very fast surface and fans can expect to see more of these cars as numbers grow around the country.

As in previous outings at Baypark the Midgets produced some fast racing with the little Pocket Rockets darting and diving all over the track looking for the areas with the most forward drive.

The 30 lap feature ran without any race stopping incidents with 3NZ Hayden Williams taking the win from 10A Jared Taylor and 98A Chris Gwilliam.

69A Six Shooter and inaugural Six Shooter feature winner Daniel Thomas.

The Sprint Car feature produced some very fast racing albeit it was stopped a number of times whilst damaged cars were removed from the track.

In the end it came down to a closely fought battle between 3Nz Jamie McDonald and 18-year-old Wellington man Stephen Taylor. With Taylor getting the jump on McDonald in a restart McDonald fought back to reclaim lead which was enough to push Taylor to the limit when he looped his car in turn one and spun to a halt.

Macdonald went on the win the incident packed feature from 88M Keaton Dahm with brother James in third place.

Speedway now takes a break for the winter months and returns to Baypark on Saturday, October 25.
