Teen airlifted after softball smash

The Tauranga-based TrustPower TECT rescue helicopter was called to airlifted a 15-year-old boy injured in a collision during a softball game.

The Whangamata boy was playing softball on Monday afternoon when he collided with another player seriously injuring his abdomen.

TrustPower TECT rescue helicopter was called to airlift a 15-year-old boy.

Rescue helicopter pilot Todd Dunham says the helicopter was called at 3pm and airlifted the boy to Waikato Hospital.

'The collision resulted in serious abdominal injuries that required immediate medical care at Waikato hospital.”

St John paramedics treated the boy at the scene before being flown.
