Third for Mount 'galactic orbital rider'

Mount Maunganui raised kiteboarder Marc Jacobs has taken out third place at the 100th Professional Kiteboarders Association tour in Fuerteventura in Spain.

The world number two kiteboarder faced his most challenging tour event to date, with massive swells and wind gusts of up to 45knots at the grand slam event on August 3.

'(I am) lucky to survive the tour without injury,” says Jacobs.

The 23-year-old finished third place both in the single and double elimination rounds gaining an overall third place win for the fifth 2013 PKRA World Tour event.

Jacobs won the battle for third place after beating Brazil's Eudazio Da Silva. The challenge took a strange twist when Da Silva crashed on his first trick coming back to land six tricks challenging Jacobs to the very end.

With the wind forecast to be very strong, suitable for Jacobs' known aggressive style of riding, judges expected some big moves for the double elimination round and he didn't disappoint with commentators referring to Jacobs as the ‘galactic orbital rider'.

Using his SwitchKites Combat2, especially developed to handle his powerful moves, Jacobs carefully executed every move to secure his third place and continue tacking towards his goal of becoming world champion.

After back-to-back competitions in Germany and Spain, Jacobs says he is happy to be heading back to Auckland to take a 'breather” and catch up with his family, girlfriend and friends both on and off the water.

After his well-deserved rest, Marc will travel to Pingtan Island in China for the Pingtan Kiteboarding World Cup.

Liam Whaley (second), Alex Pastor (first) and Marc Jacobs (third) on the podium.

The PKRA tour consists of nine events across the world and Jacobs has so far taken a first place win, two seconds, a third and a fourth place win.

His recent first place win at the PKRA world cup in Sankt Peter-Ording in Germany has Jacobs determined to take the world title of his Spanish rival Alex Pastor.

The world tour finishes in Argentina early December where the overall winner for 2013 will be crowned World Champion.
