Torrential weather set to continue

Bay of Plenty residents are gearing up for a second successive wet night ahead with forecasts showing another heavy rain period is likely.

Following last night's torrential period of rain the Metservice are forecasting heavy showers and possible thunderstorms in Tauranga overnight and tomorrow.

There are a reports of heavy flooding in the Papamoa and Mount Maunganui areas this afternoon with water levels reaching heights of up to two metres similar to this morning.

Tauranga City Council are handing out sand bags at Te Maunga refuse station on Truman Lane to residents who are concerned about the flooding which may occur overnight.

Emergency services were kept busy overnight with more than 100 call outs to flooded houses throughout Tauranga, Papamoa and Mount Maunganui in a three to four hour window.

isn't most of Mount maunganui and papamoa below sea level or only a meter or so above. what do you expect in torrential rain like this

Why hasnt the BOP civil defense got any advisaries up...I've just checked (20/4 6.17pm) on http://www.bopcivildefence.govt.nz/. What are we paying these people for.
