Te Puke fisherman dies

A 26-year-old Te Puke man died while checking his long line at Otamarakau Beach on Sunday.

The man is understood to have travelled by motorcycle to the beach early in the evening but failed to return home.

A Te Puke man died while checking his longline at Otamarakau Beach.

When friends went to look for him about 8.30pm his bike was found in the water. His body was found in the water further along the beach about 11.40pm.

Tauranga Police are expected to make a statement later this morning.
