Tauranga Intermediate top in NZ

Tauranga Intermediate School has claimed national cricket superiority again by winning the New Zealand Cricket Cup for the second time in as many years.

The Tauranga side backed up strong showings on day one by beating Medbury Intermediate by 17 runs in a low-scoring 20 over contest.

Last year's Tauranga Intermediate Captain Jamie Oakley in action.

The Bay side batted first, compiling 113-5 thanks largely to Marcel Collet's 38 and 25 from Taylor Kite.

In reply, Medbury Intermediate posted 96-6, with Taylor again a stand-out in snaring three wickets for just 16 runs.

The result meant Tauranga Intermediate finished the tournament undefeated on nine points after victories against John McGlashan College and Hutt International Boys' College the previous day.

Christchurch's Heaton intermediate won the New Zealand Cricket Shield in the girls' competition.

Wow that is so good- How old do they have to be before they can be signed up for the Black Caps- they need some fresh talent .

FRESH TALENT?

Well actually teh Black Caps really need a bit more help than that, they need "talent" rather than 'more talent'. While the hunt for talent is on maybe NZ could fast track the former Aussie captain in as well, he would seemt to have been pensioned off now but would add a few +++'s to the squad still.
