Cows involved in BOP crash

Police say there are no reports of how the cow/cows fared.

A driver is lucky not to have sustained injuries following a crash between the vehicle they were driving and some cows.

Emergency services were called to the crash on Pukehina Beach Road, between Cutwater Rd and Costello CR, just before 3am.

A police spokesperson says they received a report of a car colliding with a cow/some cows.

“Police were called at 2.50am but the caller advised the crash had happened around 15 minutes earlier.

“The driver was uninjured – no mention of how the cow/s fared unfortunately, although it does say the farmer/owner had been notified.”

Good to hear the driver was ok, one wonders what actions are being considered with regards to the livestock owner/ farmer? yes, stock can and do get out for a variety of reasons, but how much responsibility or burden for the results of that are worn by the owner/ farmer? you cant for instance charge a cow with negligence contributing to death if there was negligence involved...
Owners of pets are constantly being told we must ensure control of our pets (with penalties that can be large) to protect the public and native species, there must surely be something similar for those dealing with cattle, sheep, horses??
