A sunken boat has been tied to Tauranga’s Waikareao jetty.

“The boat is mostly submerged with just part of its starboard stern poking out of the water,” says a SunLive caller.

Police say the submerged vessel has been reported to Police and it appears the incident happened before today.

Police say nobody is believed to have been on the boat.

“The boat is tied tightly to the end of the Waikareao jetty off Chapel Street behind the Mobil petrol station,” says the caller.

The name of the vessel is currently unknown.

The caller says the vessel appears to be a yacht with no mast, and the hatch to the cabin is removed.

Some items including clothing and a book have been left on the jetty, says the caller.

The Habourmaster says there doesn’t appear to be any pollution and the caller says they can’t see any oil on the water.

High tide is at 2.06pm and low tide is at 8.23pm.
