Emergency services are responding to the scene of a vehicle on fire on State Highway 25 in the Coromandel peninsula.

Waka Kotahi NZTA report that a vehicle has caught fire on SH25 between Hikuai and Whangamata.

"Police have reports of a car engine fire today at 12.20pm on Tairua Road, between Staircase Road and Camp Gully Road,' says a police spokesperson.

"No one was injured in the fire, however both lanes were blocked for a short time while Fire Emergency NZ worked at the scene.

"Traffic has been delayed due to the fire and motorists are asked to take care as the roads are currently busy due to holiday traffic," says a police spokesperson.

"Due to a vehicle fire between Hikuai and Opoutere, expect delays and pass the scene with care," says an NZTA spokesperson.

Police thank motorists for their patience.
