Mount and Eastern Bay victorious

Mount Maunganui won back-to-back McNaughton Trophy titles at the weekend when they defeated Katikati in a replay of last season's Baywide Reserve Grade title decider.

Katikati won the toss and elected to bowl after a poor performance when batting first in last season's championship match-up.

Led by long time Mount player Blair Parlane, who smashed 74 runs, Mount Maunganui reached 232/8 in their allotted overs.

Jason Luke reached 57 before dismissal with Love Sharma the best of the Katikati bowlers taking four wickets for 34 runs.

The Katikati top order was dismissed cheaply, and the team from the extremities of the Western Bay, were in real trouble at five down with less than 40 runs on the board.

However, Logan Brewer (36) and Steve Jennings (28) restored some respectability to the Katikati innings.

Led by Steve Charman, who took 3/22, the Mount bowlers regained the ascendancy to bowl out Katikati for 140, to claim their second successive Baywide championship.

Sam Blake and Jonty Rhodes also made their mark with the ball taking two wickets apiece.

Overnight rain in Rotorua saw the Attrill Cup game between Eastern Bay of Plenty and Rotorua transferred to the artificial surface on Boord Park.

Eastern Bay was put in to bat after losing the toss and were dismissed for a relatively modest 107.

Chanse Perham grabbed three wickets for 23 runs with Shayde Perham and Andrew Gibbs being rewarded with two wickets apiece.

While Eastern Bay bowlers didn't have a large total to defend, they took the ascendancy to remove the home side for 96.

Former Bay rep bowler Dean Butterworth was on fire capturing four wickets with team stalwart Steven Ford taking 3/30.
