Rena's stern section sinks

UPDATED: See the latest on the Rena disaster here.

Rena's stern is nearly completely underwater. The bow remains fast to Astrolabe Reef.

The stern section of the Rena is sinking after slipping off the Astrolabe Reef.

Maritime New Zealand is reporting the stern section of the once 236m container ship began sinking after 8.30am.

This followed early morning observation flights of the Rena where salvors observed 'no significant changes to the status of the vessel overnight'.

The stern section is sinking close to where it sat on the reef on Sunday following the Saturday night storm that split the vessel in two - initially with a 20-30m gap.

Rena's bow section remains hard on the Astrolabe Reef close to where the vessel initially ran aground on October 5.

Where are the Greek owners? Strangely quiet. Where is John Key? Also strangely quiet. Do not worry. We, as always, will pay. . .

For those with no common sense of course there will be oil leaking from the stern. There were certain parts of the fuel tanks etc tht the salvors could not get to.............

She could have walked over there and single handidly sorted it all out in 10 minutes. She could also stop the earthquakes while she was here !.
