Tauranga Council executive team changes

Tauranga City Council’s executive team is changing, says Marty.

Tauranga City Council is abolishing two of its general manager positions.

The move comes as part of changes to the council's executive structure.

From next month there will be six general manager positions, four of those positions will focus on service delivery, and the other two will support the mechanics of the organisation.

Chief executive Marty Grenfell says further changes have been made to reporting lines for different teams.

'The changes will take effect from Monday February 18.
'The changes have been driven by three months of discussion and feedback with staff, politicians and the community.

'I've had a very clear message that managing the city's growth, ensuring the availability of sufficient land for housing, and improving transportation networks are the key issues common to all.

'The changes signal a fresh approach to the way we will manage and deliver services, and communicate and interact with the community, both now and in the future.”
Two of the general manager position have been filled.

They are Paul Davidson General Manager: Corporate Services and Christine Jones General Manager: Strategy and Growth.

Marty says recruitment for the remaining four general manager roles - infrastructure, regulatory and compliance, community services, and people and engagement - will begin shortly.

Paul Davidson has been appointed General Manager Corporate Services.

Christine Jones has been appointed General Manager Strategy and Growth.

are the two appointments already made people who were already involved with TCC? And of the four yet to be recruited, will they come from outside TCC? I think a lot of ratepayers would like to know.

Minus 2 then add 6 !!

'Marty' has missed the point that we can't afford the salaries for more high flying executives! He does not list the fact that infrastructure should be a top priority for the council. No point in more land for houses without the frame work to cope! You would think that these new positions could have been filled by present council staff! If the staff are so lacking in quality then the 'new broom' should be having a massive sweep out of the 'flotsam and jetsam' within the council! Spend spend spend - it is not your money!! Each CEO is worse than the last!

I hope this signals the start of a clear out of dead wood. The place is full of it. People with the eye on the clock and retirement. You cannot get them to do anything without harassing them constantly. Next job - clear out dead wood Councillors.
