Second dead whale located

Department of Conservation staff are at the scene of another dead whale which has been located at the end of Papamoa Beach.

Nga Potiki liaison Matire Duncan says the whale appears to have been there for a few days.

Department of Conservation staff cover up the whale's carcuss.

'It's a juvenile sperm whale, around two metres long.

'It will be taken to the wildlife centre in Te Maunga for an autopsy along with the other one.”

A juvenile whale was also found dead yesterday on Papamoa Beach, along with two beached adult Gray's beaked whales.

The two adults have since been refloated.
