Police are appealing to the public for information after a surf shop in Mount Maunganui was broken into.

The Second Surf shop at 325 Maunganui Road was burgled overnight on Monday.

Among the items stolen were around 20 T-shirts, many of which belonged to the local ‘Copious' brand.

Owner Derek Winter told SunLive it ‘pissed' him off to discover the burglary, particularly after the work he's put into the store.

'There were some hats and skateboard shoes stolen as well. I was in the surf shop business for 20-odd years last century, and we had break-ins then too. But I didn't set this shop up to make money – I just wanted to do what I love.”

Police are asking the public for any information they may have about the burglary.

In particular, if anyone gets offered one of these shirts to buy, police would be very interested in hearing from them as well.

Anyone with any information should ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or the Mount Maunganui Police Station on (07) 575 3143.
