Patients fall ill at same funeral

Two women fell ill while attending the same funeral near Matakana Island.

The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Rangiwaea Island, near Matakana Island, twice in one day.

The Tauranga-based chopper was called to the island yesterday afternoon after a 24-year-old Te Awamutu woman became unwell at a tangi she was attending.

She was treated at the scene by the helicopter St John medic before being flown to Tauranga Hospital for further treatment.

Pilot and base manager Liam Brettkelly says this was the second patient to become unwell at the funeral.

'Earlier in the morning the Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Rangiwaea Isand in the Tauranga Harbour, where an 84-year-old Tauranga woman had collapsed.

'She was treated by St John staff before being flown to Tauranga Hospital in a moderate condition.”

There was no protesters blocking the helicopter landing or the road to the airport... Woops, I hope I didn't accidentally give them some new ideas... I hope the people affected are doing ok?

I can only assume and hope that 'GreertonBoy' has not and will not have the worry of making a call for emergency services - a task not taken lightly by the caller or the paramedics!. I find his comment most insensitive both to the occasion and also the two people needing medical attention and sarcastic remarks like his definitely do not contribute to the process of healthy debate. Thanks but no thanks for your "accidental new ideas" GreertonBoy - they are as irrelevant as your comment.
