Diesel and petrol prices rise

A litre of 91-octane will now cost 196.9c – the highest it's been since May – and a litre of diesel will cost you 127.9c.

The AA says an increase in oil and commodity prices combined with a drop in the New Zealand dollar led to the cost of diesel and petrol rising 5 cents a litre on Tuesday and Thursday.

Earlier this week, Fairfax reported AA senior policy analyst Mark Stockdale called on fuel companies to explain wide-ranging petrol price discrepancies between stations in different areas.

Both Z Energy and BP rejected the suggestion higher prices were set in some areas to offset lower prices in more competitive markets.

'There is extreme discounting in certain locations where there is significant regional competition simply so we can compete in those markets," BP spokeswoman Shelley Brady told Fairfax.

This latest increase follows a 2c per litre rise in petrol and diesel prices last week.

That's right the powers that be were creating a shortage and this is the result. Probably some inter company double dipping as well. Remove all taxes from alternative fuels the vehicles that use them as well electric cars and watch the price slide to an all time low.

Would i lie to you

What I am unable to understand is that while Light Crude is half the price per barrel that it was 3 years ago, pump prices seem to be increasing!
