Possible change for TV show

Bay of Plenty residents who tune in to watch TVNZ'a Breakfast show could be in for a bit of a change as the hosts have reportedly been told their time is up.

Speculation that change was on the way for the weekday morning programme escalated after TV3 presenter Hilary Barry quit her job in May.

A source has now said Breakfast hosts Rawdon Christie and Nadine Chalmers-Ross learned their fate in a meeting on Friday with TVNZ head of news and current affairs John Gillespie, NZME reported.

Their rumoured replacements are Barry - former co-host of TV3's morning show Paul Henry and Newshub's evening bulletins - and TVNZ's US correspondent Jack Tame, but that is unconfirmed.

It was unknown if Christie and Chalmers-Ross would stay working at TVNZ or even whether they would be there on Monday reported Stuff.

Christie, Chalmers-Ross and morning newsreader Peter Williams were seen drinking at a central Auckland bar on Friday afternoon. Several people were said to be commiserating with them, although Williams was reported to be staying on at TVNZ.

TVNZ has refused to say whether it is interested in Barry, who is thought to be heading overseas and will not return until August.

Christie and Chalmers-Ross would not comment, while Williams said he had "no idea" about any changes at Breakfast.

Former MediaWorks head of news Mark Jennings said he hadn't heard if the speculation was true, but that he wouldn't be surprised if TVNZ were looking to make a change.

"It's very clear that Paul Henry has been making steady and dramatic inroads into that audience," he said, adding that acting now would be easier before the situation got worse.

"It will be interesting because Hilary is a very accomplished broadcaster and what role she plays is going to be very important."

TVNZ's Georgie Hill would not be drawn on the rumours.

"We're not commenting on the speculation, and when we've got any more to announce we'll be sure to bring you across it," she said.

It is time for a change, Rawdon has become boring wriggling about picking and putting down paper etc. I have said it befor and will continue to say it we need a REAL news and current affairs programme in the in the mornings and do away with all the nonsense that the likes of Rawdon and co present. Only one worth keeping is Peter Williams.

If the change happens it happen

id prefer if current host stay on nice to switch onto morning telly that's light hearted, friendly and relaxed but serious when need be. As nice as Hilary and Jack are its seems a odd mix................

The problem is that they do not have Paul Henry and despite all the people who rubbish him there is no doubt in my mind that he is a quantum leap ahead of all others presently on TV - If Hillary does show up on TVNZ then a lot of people including myself would be pretty disappointed with her since she proclaimed that she was getting out of the rat race and spending more time at home - shifting to TVNZ does not seem to me to be leaving the rat race - but would be entering a defunct, and pretty meaningless operation.

Bring it On

Competition in many aspects of life improves most things. We ALWAYS watch tv over our breakfast- and often flick between both programmes.Paul Henry has grown on me- and the tv1 hosts just comtinue to be more and more useless. We also would really prefer a GREAT NEWS and particulaly DECENT MONEY programme . The oversease makrkets have been operating while we slept. Decent stats would be great However- tv 1 would be foolish to get rid of Peter Williams- he is their anchor face! Hillary and Jack would certainly be worth a look and see how they go- BUT DECENT CONTENT WOULD CAPTURE US

I can't imagine any real change here.

...the TV1 Breakfast show has been "off my radar" for a long while now since the revamped slot at TV3 with Paul Henry fronting. It (the Paul Henry Show) has left the totally bland TV1 show in it's dust..with quirky props, people and presentors, as the ratings suggest. TV1 have every reason to be concerned and as sad as it is to think that Hilary Barry "learned" this successful way only to possibly "jump ship" is rather sad, but, is she or Jack Tame another Paul Henry?..absolutely not..love him or loath him I bet you watch him.. As for the content..it is a "show" as compared with a continual news programme (as is TV1's effort)..so the mix must be varied and interesting to the majority of potential viewers (and advertisers/sponsors), BBC World News/Al Jazeera should satisfy those wanting an all news programme. TV1 will continue to struggle without a Henr

Change of presenters won't make a difference

Haven't watched TV1 Breakfast since Paul Henry started his own breakfast programme. I was well bored of Rawdon a couple of years ago. He comes across as stuffy and slightly superior air. I am not interested in Hilary Barry either . She showed very little interest in being on the Paul Henry Show right from the start . She just seemed to be filling in time. Now if Mark Sainsbury were to front Breakfast for TV1 I would be interested however I can't imagine that happening.

does anyone care?

What's all this fascination with people who read news or weather? Why somehow do many expect jobs for life? Why are they paid so much? What has society become when people who read the news become the news?
