Police attempted to stop a car in Palmerston North at 10.45am on Thursday, June 30.
The driver, who has warrants for his arrest, fled the scene in a grey Mazda.
Police are currently trying to locate him in the Cloverlea area with the assistance of the armed offenders squad who have cordoned the area.
The operation is ongoing and road blocks are in place.
Schools in the area have been informed and are taking appropriate precautions to keep pupils safe.
There is no further information available for release at this time.
