Sewage pollutes stream

The Kopurererua Stream is polluted after a sewer overflowed this morning, says Tauranga City Council communications advisor Marcel Currin.

A blockage of fat in the wastewater system caused a sewer overflow in the early hours of Friday morning.

The Kopurererua Stream is expected to remain polluted until later next week

The overflow went into Tom Muir Reserve and Faulkner Street where the stormwater pond system enters the Kopurererua Stream.

Clean-up and blockage clearance was completed this morning after the overflow was reported, says Marcel.

Health warning signs are in place. Run-off from heavy rain will also have affected the quality of stormwater ponds so water quality test results are not expected to be clear until later next week, June 30.
