Two accidents on SH2

Reports are coming in of two vehicle accidents on State Highway 2 either side of the Tauranga Harbour Bridge this evening.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE number says the first accident involved a motorcycle and a car in the westbound lanes of Hewletts Road near the Gull service station which occurred shortly after 5.30pm.

"It looked like the crash happened in the bus lane, when I drove past the motorcycle was partially under the car," the caller says.

While the second accident involved a nose-to-tail between two cars heading south on Takitimu Drive near the Elizabeth Street roundabout in the past 15 minutes, blocking the right hand lane.

Traffic appears to be backing up and motorists could potentially face delays.

At this stage it is unknown if anyone was injured in either accident.

When isn't there a crash down this road, Maunganui Road or Maungatapu road. Its going to be worst down Hewletts road once the Maunganui road/Girven flyover is built because of all the stupid traffic lights that are not insync.

..that the "out of sync" traffic lights caused the car to swerve into the bus lane without looking or indicating intention perhaps, causing an accident with the motorcyclist who should be there?
