A treasure hunt on two wheels

Ready, set, go! Bayride Motorcycles is challenging motorbike riders to take part in their annual treasure hunt around the Bay this Sunday.

The event is to raise money for St John's Ambulance services.

Chris Welch of Western Bay Riding Tuition has helped to organise the event but didn't want to give much of the game away, so not to ruin this weekend's hunt.

'Last time [participants] had to ride a little 50cc scooter around an obstacle course and competed in a horseshoe challenge.

This time round participants will be on dirt bikes. However, it's not all about speed, it's about skill too.

'Even if you're the fastest rider, it's not about the speed, it's about the ability to complete the challenge at each of the destinations,” says Chris.

Each team will be given a clue for a location, which will lead the teams to find another clue and so on.

The last clue will take teams to the final location where everyone will be greeted with a well-earned barbecue.

'We did [the treasure hunt] last year to put the feelers out and everyone seemed to enjoy it so much, this time hopefully it's going to be a lot bigger.”

Participants will be in teams of six, which will hunt down each of the clues – if you can't round up six people then don't worry, Bayride can put teams together on the day.

It costs $5 to register, which goes towards the barbecue and to St John's.

You can register on the day at 10am at Bayride Motorcycles on 337 Cameron Rd, Tauranga.
