School evacuated after bomb threat

It's back to school for St Patrick's College in Wellington after a bomb threat forced the evacuation of the school yesterday.

The college was evacuated after a threat was made via email.

Earlier this year, Mount Maunganui's St Thomas More Catholic School and Brookfield Primary School were also evacuated following bomb threats.

The threats turned out to be part of a larger scale threat which involved education facilities from around New Zealand.

Yesterday's threat was made shortly after 9.30am and the decision to send staff and students home was made after police were contacted.

Rector Neal Swindells says earlier that parents had received emails and texts about the situation, and students had been able to call home if they needed to do so before the school closed.

"We've taken the best action we could to make sure everyone is safe.”

Police remained at the school for most of Wednesday, working with the school's management team, and investigating the threat.
