Multiple crashes in Western Bay

Seven crashes, including a double fatal near Pongakawa, kept police busy in the weekend.

The fatal crash was one of several crashes police were called to in the weekend, says Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion.

Police were called to a crash on the Tauranga Harbour Bridge around 3.30am on Saturday where a vehicle had spun out, says Ian.

'The driver will be charged with alcohol related driving.”

At 9.09am the same day, there was a car versus pedestrian crash the intersection Hull Road and Maunganui Road.

Ian says the pedestrian sustained minor injuries.

'The rest of them [the crashes] were minor. Car versus telegraph pole, car versus rail bridge railings,” says Ian.

'I'm constantly raising the need for people to take extra care. Particularly with the coverage from the fatal crash, there's not much more I can say at this stage.”
