Police are currently at the scene of a serious crash near Dargaville.

Early indications are that a vehicle has swerved to avoid a school bus and has collided with another vehicle on State Highway 1 near Maitahi Road at around 8am.

The information Police have is that one person has died at the scene and there is another person with injuries.

No one on the school bus has been injured.

The road has been closed and diversions are now in place.

Please avoid the area if possible.

The Northland Serious Crash Unit is at the scene.

There is little phone reception in the area so more information will be provided as it becomes available.
