Inflation: keeping it in check

The steady increase of living costs is a burden many New Zealanders are bearing, but Tauranga MP Simon Bridges says the government is doing its best to keep prices under control.

Food and oil prices are on the up with international influences the catalyst for much of this.

See video below of Tauranga MP Simon Bridges talking about inflation and what the government is doing to keep the cost of living affordable in New Zealand.

Pressures such as fluctuations in the world price for milk, or conflicts in oil producing nations affecting the price of petrol, are beyond the government's direct control.

Prudent policy can help address these issues, however, and Simon explores this on video below.

Reduce taxes then

What is in the governments control is the huge percentage of everly littre of petrol that goes to the government. Tax duties and GST makes up almost 50% of the cost of petrol at the pump. Government make more than the retailers do. It's not just governments taking taxes who are to blame. - it's also governments restricting refinery capacity and restricting new drilling and exploration that has made oil production more than it needs to be, and oil resources lower than they should be. But I dont suppose Simon has thought of things like that

THAT'S TOO SIMPLE SIMON

Not so your current Govt. policies are encouraging inflation.A meaningful start to addressing inflation would be to remove GST from all food items. Use the top 3inches of your head and think it through for a change.
