Truck crash closes Bay road

Update: 10.30am: The road where a truck rolled is now open on State Highway 2 just east of Pukehina.

The Traffic Road Event Information System has reported both lanes have been cleared and is open to traffic.

Earlier:

According to police the driver is unharmed, but the vehicle is blocking both lanes on the highway and is leaking fuel.

Emergency services are currently at the scene. Motorists are being told to expect the road to remain closed for at least an hour while the truck is removed and the fuel is cleared.

Traffic travelling east should take a diversion by turning off SH2 at Pukehina Station Rd, then turn down Old Coach Rd before turning back into the highway.

Westbound traffic should use the same route, leaving SH2 at Old Coach Rd before turning onto Pukehina Station Rd and then back onto the highway.

Yet ANOTHER brothertrucker rolls his truck ( very probably by disrespecting recommended speed limit on a curve ) causing immense inconvenience to everybody else. As always, the majority suffers because of the ignorant, selfish, inconsiderate actions of the minority.

No idea what happened

But it must be the drivers fault. Not say mechanical or other factor, yes definitely the drivers fault.................

It is my understanding that the speed limit for trucks is 90 kmh, yet I see heavily laden trucks doing well over this all the time, especially on the Kaimais. Why isn't this policed?

Kaimai danger

Yes, that's right, I have often experienced the same behavior while crossing the Kaimais. As if that weren't bad enough, they will often tailgate you if you are unfortunate enough to have one them behind you.

If a truck is heavly laden like you say going over the Kaimais he will be in low gear engine braking all the way down with a string of impatient cars behind. If not his brakes will be on fire before the bottom. Quite simple really.

Stupid law

Some trucks are limited to 90kmph but not all. If trucks were allowed to travel at 100kmph then cars wouldn't be held back as much. You have two different speed limits on same road always going to cause frustration. Up the limit for one or lower it for the other continuity . Look up the meaning LTSA.
