Counties batted first and posted a big score when they reached 269/9 in their 50 overs.

The home side's big tally came from several of their batsmen getting starts, with three going on to post totals in the 40s and 50s.

Chris Atkinson was the best of the Bay of Plenty bowling attack grabbing three wickets, with Brody Gilroy getting two bowling scalps.

Mount Maunganui youngster Luke Tatley, who was making his Bay Development debut, got a wicket. Christian MacDonald and Nick Smith also snared a wicket apiece.

Stephen Crossan and Cam Neal strode to the crease in a confident frame of mind, with the first Bay of Plenty wicket falling at the 57 run mark when Neal was caught behind.

The Bay of Plenty skipper was in grand form with the willow and put together another solid partnership with Blair McKenzie.

The arrival of Matt Golding at the crease turned a solid start into a match winning performance.

Crossan and Golding blazed away and the visitors had the game in the bag when Stephen Crossan was bowled for 144. Golding went on to be there at the end with an unbeaten 74 when the Bay of Plenty win came in the 39th over.

The Bay of Plenty pair simple belted Counties Manukau out of the game with the victory with 11 overs to spare, showing the Bay of Plenty dominance in the match.

The magnificent batting performance from Stephen Crossan was an epic innings and is among the highest all-time individual scores by a Bay of Plenty Development batsmen.

Matt Golding was as assertive at the crease as the Bay of Plenty skipper and was rewarded with his undefeated knock in the 70s.

The Bay of Plenty second eleven will go into their last match of the season against Waikato Valley on March 13 full of confidence.

With two wins and a narrow loss against Hamilton, a victory against the Waikato regional representatives could give the Bay of Plenty side the Basil Burney Trophy, if other results go their way.

Basil McBurney Trophy (ND Development) Results:

Counties Manukau 269/9 (Chris Atkinson 3/56, Brody Gilroy 2/59) lost to Bay of Plenty 272/4 (Stephen Crossan 144, Matt Golding 74no)
