It is the third product to be recalled this month by the Ministry over health fears.

The presence of listeria was detected in Beehive champagne shaved ham this week, while Hepatitis A was recently linked to Fruzio mixed berries.

Affected smoked chicken has a batch number of 169052 and a ‘best before' date of January 1, 2016.

The authority advise that it should not be eaten.

The 1kg shrink-wrapped chicken sells at New World, Pak n Save, Four Square and Countdown stores across New Zealand.

Undercooked chicken can cause salmonella which has symptoms of diarrhoea, fever and cramps.

There have been no reports of illness as yet, but anyone with concerns is advised to contact a doctor.

The chicken is sold at the following supermarkets:

- 9 New World Stores: Mt. Roskill, Birkenhead, Masterton, Browns Bay, Remuera, New Plymouth, Whakatane, Albany.

- 7 Pak N Save Stores: Wairau, Te Awamutu, Sylvia Park, Tamatea, Albany, Silverdale, Dunedin.

- 1 Four Square Store: Cooper Beach.

- 12 Countdown Stores: Onehunga, Mount Roskill, Massey, Lynnmall, Sylvia Park, Whangarei, Mangere Mall, Waikanae, Amberley, Gore, Invercargill, Oamaru.
