Bay Union sign sevens talent

Rotorua rugby sensation Isaac Te Aute has signed a new, two-year contract with the Bay of Plenty Steamers.

It's been a meteoric rise for the 19-year-old who was plucked from schoolboy rugby to train with the New Zealand Sevens squad.

Isaac told SunLive it has been a dream come true to be able to play rugby at the highest level.

The former Rotorua Boys' High School 1st XV captain has been signed along with former Waikato player and All Blacks Sevens star Joe Webber. Joe has signed with the Union for the 2016 season.

Joe has had an outstanding representative rugby career so far, including selection in the New Zealand Schools, New Zealand U20s, Maori All Blacks and All Black Sevens.

He was selected last week in the All Blacks Sevens squad for the first two tournaments of the HBSC World Series in Dubai and Cape Town.

Bay of Plenty Rugby Union chief executive Mike Rogers says it is great to be able to secure local talent to represent the Bay.

'Both Isaac and Joe are fantastic talents and they will bring plenty of excitement that I am sure our fans will enjoy watching,” says Mike.

'It would be a treat next year to see them represent us and the country at the Olympics and then return to represent the Bay where our community can watch them in person.”
