At 4.50pm on Friday, emergency services were called to Gladstone Road, Levin.
There were reports of a person falling off a horse.
Unfortunately, despite the efforts of emergency services, a 39-year-old female from Levin died at the scene.
The name of the deceased will be released after her family have been notified.
The death has been reported to the coroner.
